Bisected by the river, the Kanha National Park area is drenched by the Banjar River Valley on the west. Flowing through the buffer zone, the Banjar River is a tributary of the Narmada River located about 64 kilometres from the national park’s western gate along the north-western direction and is considered the lifeline of Kanha Tiger Reserve as it is adominant source of water on the western boundary of the park for the flourishing flora and fauna species of the Kanha National Park. 

Some Informative Geographical Facts about Banjar River

The Banjar River is situated at the geographical coordinates 22°36’0″ N and 80°22’0″ E.

It originates in the Malanjkhand region bordering Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states of India.

It is one of the main tributaries of the Narmada River which is the fifth largest river flowing in central India. 

Consisting mainly of Sal trees, the catchment area of the river is approximately 1,520 sq. km. and is situated at an elevation of 452 metres above the mean sea level.

In Mandla, it crosses the district headquarters of Kanha.

The Kanha National Park is situated on the banks of the Banjar River.

It belongs to the Class H stream – Hydrographic.

Bridges & Waterfalls of the Banjar River

A Number of Bridges are constructed across the Banjar River which cuts through the plains of Madhya Pradesh and acts as a divider between the villages of Surwahi and Sarkeha. Close to the BaglipatMandir, the Baglipat Bridge is built over the Banjar River connecting both villages. During Monsoon, when the volume of the water increases in the Banjar river, the view from the Bridge of the roaring river is breathtaking and worth a hundred clicks.

Ghugara also known by the name Ghogra Waterfall at the Ghogharikhapa Check Dam is among the spectacular places for tourists to visit in and around the Kanha National Park as it is a part of the Banjar River. Bounded by stones of all sizes and rocky terrain, the Jamsalvi Waterfall is located near the Jamsalvi Temple perfect for an outing. 

The Nearby places to the waterfall include Rangari, Ghogri, Paradsinga, Kolar Dam, Sausar, Mohgaon, MP Border Check Post, Chhindwara Road, Berdi, KhekraNala Dam, Lohangi, and Lohgad.
